MEET KATIE

I grew up on a horse farm in central Illinois, where I spent my days exploring the hills and creeks, picking dandelions, and dreaming up stories to write and draw in my sketchbook at night. After high school, I moved to the city and got a BA in Illustration from Columbia College Chicago.

After college, I worked for a few years managing a pet grooming and doggie daycare business, while also doing commissioned pet portraits. But then, my husband and I decided to move to California, where I started focusing more on children’s illustration. After many wonderful years in California, my journey led me back to the Midwest in northern Illinois.

My time spent on the farm and deep love for animals and nature always find their way into my illustrations.  When i’m not llustrating or outside hiking, I have many creative hobbies that keep me busy. I love painting, scrapbooking, crocheting, photography, and mixed media art journaling.

Being a storyteller at heart, I hope to someday become an author of picture books as well as illustrating them.

I am also a National SCBWI-LA mentorship award winner: Kidlit Artist interview
